Rewind of 2017, Fast Forward to 2018

First off, Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and a very happy new year. I still cannot believe that 2017 has come and gone and we are already in the year 2018. 2017 was definitely a year to remember as it was full of events, travel and so many more. 2017 was my first full year in my new hometown: Raleigh, North Carolina. This place is 15 and a half hours away from everything I have ever known, as well as my family and friends. 2017 was a year full of tests, trials and tribulations. Below I will show you my year in review through travel, pictures and memories that will live on forever.

January 2017:

My husband and I decided to get out and discover more of North Carolina. The first place we went was to the Greensboro Science Center on a warm day. This place was a fabulous place to take a day trip to.

February 2017:

We went to Top Sail and Surf City, North Carolina. The beach was beyond cold but we had a wonderful time and it was so beautiful out there.

March 2017:

My husband and I took our usual bi-yearly birthday trip for me to Tampa, Florida. We explore Clearwater, Tampa and Palmetto. From Tampa we took a cruise to Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico. When we got back, we hung out with family friends of ours that were moving to the Tampa area. This was a trip that will forever be a great memory, I am so thankful it did not remain cloudy the entire time. Once we got back, my husband and I adopted our second puppy Hailey. She makes our family feel more complete.

April 2017:

My father that live in Kansas reached out to inform me that he had a few heart attacks. He was in the hospital and had surgery, but I am beyond thankful that he is okay and doing a lot better. The cause of it was genetics and I am thankful I got to go back to Kansas City to see him. This was extremely hard on me being so far away. While in the hospital we received news his step mother had passed away. I will forever miss my Grandma Anne but I know she is not struggling anymore and is in a better place. The following week my father in law needed heart surgery as well. I must say that was a very emotional and hard month. This month I also traveled for the first time solo in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I had a 3 hour layover and decided to leave the airport and go to the Mall of America. That moment made me so proud of myself. I will forever remember that moment. My husband and I also explored Falls Lake.

May 2017:

May was a more calm month but a great weather month to do some exploring. My husband and I took weekend trips that month to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and the North Carolina Zoo. Both were amazing trips and I am so thankful for them.

June 2017:

June was a busy month between my best friend getting married to my mother finally coming to North Carolina to visit me. I went to Miami, Florida to be in and help out with my best friends wedding. I came back to North Carolina and prepared for my mom to meet my husband and I in Knoxville, Tennessee. We took my mom to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg Tennessee. We also showed her Asheville, Raleigh and Wilmington, North Carolina and I took her to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I also met Kelsea Ballerini (country female singer) and went to my first concert in North Carolina. I also explored more of Falls Lake and found my favorite spot in Raleigh, North Carolina to visit.

July 2017:

July was a very calm month for us. My best friend and her family came up from Kansas, so of course I had to go visit her in Top Sail, North Carolina. I went exploring North Carolina on my own and found a wonderful place with sunflowers (Kansas girl here). My husband and I also took a weekend trip to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. We went to our second concert in North Carolina and met Maren Morris (country female singer). I also went to my first winery in North Carolina called Chatham Hill Winery, definitely had a blast! This was also the month I started The Different Frame of Mind blog!

August 2017:

My husband and I took a weekend trip to Charleston and Folly Beach, South Carolina for our 3 year wedding anniversary. I still cannot believe we have been married for 3 years, time sure does fly by so fast. We went to our third concert in North Carolina and I got to meet Hunter Hayes (country male singer) and Maggie Rose (country female singer). We watched the solar eclipse but did not get the full darkness here in Raleigh, North Carolina. This month was a very fun filled month.

September 2017:

For Labor Day, we went on a trip to Chicago, Illinois; Benton Harbor, Michigan and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This trip was completely life changing as I fell in love with Chicago and will forever miss it. I did so many first time things and actually appreciated a crowd rather than hating it. We went to our first out of state baseball game.

November 2017:

My husband and I went to Carolina Beach, North Carolina. We also went to his parents house in Knoxville, Tennessee. While we were up there we went to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, Tennessee. As we were up there we hiked up to Clingman’s Dome, I will forever be proud of myself for doing that.

December 2017:

I took a trip home for Christmas to visit my family. My sister surprised us with tickets to go to my very first Chiefs game. This was definitely a wonderful time, but it was so cold.

As you can tell, I had a wonderful 2017 but I knew I needed to change some things in 2018. My motto for 2018 is “New Year, New Me”. My goals are to eat better, exercise more, travel more, explore more and most importantly love myself more. 2017 and moving here to North Carolina have helped me to grow as a person and to learn to love myself more. I have always been the person to worry about what everyone else thinks of me and not what I think of myself. 2018 is going to be all about being in tune with myself. Traveling helps to learn about myself but it is truly up to me to learn to love myself and what I have to bring to the table. My travel goals and trips that are already planned for this year are listed below.

1.) Miami and a cruise with my mom in March 2018.

2.) Wyoming and Colorado Springs, Colorado for my friend wedding in March 2018 with my mom.

3.) Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine in May 2018 with my husband.

4.) New York in July of 2018.

5.) Cruise with my husband and family friends/best friend in December 2018.

This year will be jam packed with fun but I am eager to see what 2018 has to offer. This year my goals for my blog are to gain more followers and publish an article every Wednesday and Saturday. I will also be posting every Monday and Thursday on Instagram and Facebook. Be sure to follow my instagram here and my Facebook here to be able to see the images of my travels I am sharing. What are some of your goals for 2018? I would love to hear about them in the comments below.

Stay tuned for next week as I am going to share about my struggles and happiness of moving to North Carolina. I will also be writing on North Carolina and all the places it has to offer. See you soon!

Xoxo,

Ariel

P.S. did you try the deep dish pizza in Chicago? It’s crazy but it’s extremely delicious 🙂

    1. Thank you so much, I really did have a wonderful 2017 except a few events. I definitely love to travel. I actually did try it in Chicago. Best pizza I have seriously ever had. I hope 2018 will be good for you as well. Thank you so much for your wonderful comment. I really appreciate it.

  4. Looks like you had an incredibly busy (and amazing 2017). You really do pack in as much as you can per month (aside from family issues – sorry about your grandmother). I love your photos although it does make me quite sad to see animals in captivity 💚

    1. I did have a wonderful 2017 aside from some issues. I do love to pack in a full month, makes me feel like I am living my life to the fullest. Thank you for your compliment, I really appreciate it. I understand your sadness.

      1. And thank you for such a compassionate reply 💚

  5. Love this post – such a great wrap up of your 2017. I’m from Northern Ireland (UK) and I’ve actually been to Milwaukee too! My first and only time in USA, I stayed there for two weeks on an internship programme for Milwaukee Irish Fest (I flew into Chicago but didn’t get the chance to experience it unfortunately) – I definitely need to see more of America. I love how your positively really comes through your writing; makes me wish I done a 2017 review – still time I guess. I love your new years resolution as well, I hope 2018 goes well for you and your blog, give wee hailey a big hug from me please she is too cute! My goals for 2018 are to focus on the important things in life (along with of course trying to maintain a healthy diet and exercise more) I always find myself stressing over silly things that wouldn’t be the end of world it they didn’t work out. I’m new to blogging as well so I’d like to take more time to focus on that also. Hopefully 2018 is our year!

    1. I’m so jealous your are from Ireland. I have always wanted to go there. Definitely on my bucket list. Thank you for all your wonderful compliments and comments. I hope you do get to go to the US and explore more. Hey we could always swap lives for a week 😉. Those are some great goals, sound similar to mine. I hope you have a wonderful 2018, I cannot wait to hear what it brings for you. Happy new year!

I really want to achieve self love, it’s definitely hard though. Thank you so much for your comment, I really appreciate it. Happy new year to you!

  8. Quite a good travel year! Did you get to try the deep dish in Chicago? I used to go to the city all the time growing up in southern Illinois and still have yet to buy a slice of all the times I’ve been there – I’ve heard it’s delicious though!

    1. It was a wonderful travel year. I did get to try it and oh boy was that the best pizza I have ever had! I was definitely amazed by it. I hope you do get to get a slice sometime. Thank you so much for your comment, I really appreciate it.

  9. I wish you all the best for achieving your goals in 2018. Your plans sound really nice. The United States are an incredible country and I would love to see more of it myself. However, for now I’m focusing on Asia, as I am living in Hong Kong currently. Are you also interested in travels abroad?

    Cheers,
    Dennis

    1. Thank you very much, I wish the same for you. The US definitely has a lot to offer. I hope you get to see more of it. That’s so neat that you are focusing on Asia. I would love to do travels abroad. I’ve only been to a few places out of country but nothing overseas as of yet. I am thinking about a cruise going from Spain and a trip to Iceland. I do have a lot of places I want to see abroad. I just have yet to plan it since they are rather expensive for a ticket over there, so I would love to jam in as much as possible while I am over there. Or figure out how to travel full time.

      Cheers to you as well!

    1. I definitely did. It was a crazy but fun filled year. Hailey is a sweetheart, I am so glad she fit right into our little family. We are trying to help her be less skittish as she was found out in the woods with her other siblings without mom or dad or people, so she is very fearful. Poor pup! Thank you for your wonderful comment I really appreciate it!

  12. Kudos to you Ariel! I love to travel, however life keeps throwing wrenches into those plans. This year I hope to start changing that by working on finding success with my blog as well.
