First off, Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and a very happy new year. I still cannot believe that 2017 has come and gone and we are already in the year 2018. 2017 was definitely a year to remember as it was full of events, travel and so many more. 2017 was my first full year in my new hometown: Raleigh, North Carolina. This place is 15 and a half hours away from everything I have ever known, as well as my family and friends. 2017 was a year full of tests, trials and tribulations. Below I will show you my year in review through travel, pictures and memories that will live on forever.
My husband and I decided to get out and discover more of North Carolina. The first place we went was to the Greensboro Science Center on a warm day. This place was a fabulous place to take a day trip to.
We went to Top Sail and Surf City, North Carolina. The beach was beyond cold but we had a wonderful time and it was so beautiful out there.
My husband and I took our usual bi-yearly birthday trip for me to Tampa, Florida. We explore Clearwater, Tampa and Palmetto. From Tampa we took a cruise to Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico. When we got back, we hung out with family friends of ours that were moving to the Tampa area. This was a trip that will forever be a great memory, I am so thankful it did not remain cloudy the entire time. Once we got back, my husband and I adopted our second puppy Hailey. She makes our family feel more complete.
My father that live in Kansas reached out to inform me that he had a few heart attacks. He was in the hospital and had surgery, but I am beyond thankful that he is okay and doing a lot better. The cause of it was genetics and I am thankful I got to go back to Kansas City to see him. This was extremely hard on me being so far away. While in the hospital we received news his step mother had passed away. I will forever miss my Grandma Anne but I know she is not struggling anymore and is in a better place. The following week my father in law needed heart surgery as well. I must say that was a very emotional and hard month. This month I also traveled for the first time solo in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I had a 3 hour layover and decided to leave the airport and go to the Mall of America. That moment made me so proud of myself. I will forever remember that moment. My husband and I also explored Falls Lake.
May was a more calm month but a great weather month to do some exploring. My husband and I took weekend trips that month to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and the North Carolina Zoo. Both were amazing trips and I am so thankful for them.
June was a busy month between my best friend getting married to my mother finally coming to North Carolina to visit me. I went to Miami, Florida to be in and help out with my best friends wedding. I came back to North Carolina and prepared for my mom to meet my husband and I in Knoxville, Tennessee. We took my mom to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg Tennessee. We also showed her Asheville, Raleigh and Wilmington, North Carolina and I took her to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I also met Kelsea Ballerini (country female singer) and went to my first concert in North Carolina. I also explored more of Falls Lake and found my favorite spot in Raleigh, North Carolina to visit.
July was a very calm month for us. My best friend and her family came up from Kansas, so of course I had to go visit her in Top Sail, North Carolina. I went exploring North Carolina on my own and found a wonderful place with sunflowers (Kansas girl here). My husband and I also took a weekend trip to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. We went to our second concert in North Carolina and met Maren Morris (country female singer). I also went to my first winery in North Carolina called Chatham Hill Winery, definitely had a blast! This was also the month I started The Different Frame of Mind blog!
My husband and I took a weekend trip to Charleston and Folly Beach, South Carolina for our 3 year wedding anniversary. I still cannot believe we have been married for 3 years, time sure does fly by so fast. We went to our third concert in North Carolina and I got to meet Hunter Hayes (country male singer) and Maggie Rose (country female singer). We watched the solar eclipse but did not get the full darkness here in Raleigh, North Carolina. This month was a very fun filled month.
For Labor Day, we went on a trip to Chicago, Illinois; Benton Harbor, Michigan and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This trip was completely life changing as I fell in love with Chicago and will forever miss it. I did so many first time things and actually appreciated a crowd rather than hating it. We went to our first out of state baseball game.
My husband and I went to Carolina Beach, North Carolina. We also went to his parents house in Knoxville, Tennessee. While we were up there we went to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, Tennessee. As we were up there we hiked up to Clingman’s Dome, I will forever be proud of myself for doing that.
I took a trip home for Christmas to visit my family. My sister surprised us with tickets to go to my very first Chiefs game. This was definitely a wonderful time, but it was so cold.
As you can tell, I had a wonderful 2017 but I knew I needed to change some things in 2018. My motto for 2018 is “New Year, New Me”. My goals are to eat better, exercise more, travel more, explore more and most importantly love myself more. 2017 and moving here to North Carolina have helped me to grow as a person and to learn to love myself more. I have always been the person to worry about what everyone else thinks of me and not what I think of myself. 2018 is going to be all about being in tune with myself. Traveling helps to learn about myself but it is truly up to me to learn to love myself and what I have to bring to the table. My travel goals and trips that are already planned for this year are listed below.
1.) Miami and a cruise with my mom in March 2018.
2.) Wyoming and Colorado Springs, Colorado for my friend wedding in March 2018 with my mom.
3.) Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine in May 2018 with my husband.
4.) New York in July of 2018.
5.) Cruise with my husband and family friends/best friend in December 2018.
